Last week 130,000 of Avaaz members have signed the petition within 48 hours for the G8 countries seeking to limit the global warming of 2 degrees Celsius. The petition was delivered during the G8 to the UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown (see photo below), along with personalized greeting cards giant.
Outside the meeting, members of Avaaz took the clothes, using only green Bikinis and trunks, in a production with much humor (see photo below) to pass the message of the campaign. The action generated a huge media attention. Meanwhile Avaaz's partners increased the pressure in Italy and worldwide. The countries that were blocking the negotiations resisted but eventually agreed with the target of 2 degrees Celsius! However, according to Avaaz, they failed to define specific actions for how to implement the goal. The challenge now is to ensure the organization's political leaders to maintain their commitment to signing a binding global treaty for the UN meeting on climate change in Copenhagen in December.
The petitions, campaigns to capture, lobbying and political events that our community is doing is having an incredible impact. The Avaaz has grown more than 50,000 people per week, and now more than 3.6 million people engaged in all countries of the world. We are truly global, operating in 14 languages, we have 25,000 members in Singapore, 35,000 in South Africa, 130,000 in Italy, 50,000 in Mexico ... Never before had a community like ours, capable of rapidly responding to global issues and mobilize effectively the power of global civil society to the greatest needs and concerns of humanity - this is a great reason for hope!

Campanha da Avaaz fez diferença no G8. (Sim nós podemos)
Semana passada 130.000 membros da Avaaz assinaram em 48 horas a petição para os países do G8 pedindo a limitação do aquecimento do planeta em 2 graus Celsius. A petição foi entregue durante o G8 ao Primeiro Ministro do Reino Unido, Gordon Brown (veja fotos acima), junto com cartões postais personalizados gigantes.
Do lado de fora do encontro, os membros da Avaaz tiraram a roupa, usando apenas bikinis e sungas verdes, em uma encenação com muito humor (veja fotos acima) para passar a mensagem da campanha. A ação gerou uma grande atenção da mídia. Enquanto isso parceiros da Avaaz aumentaram a pressão na Itália e no mundo todo. Os países que estavam bloqueando as negociações resistiram, mas acabaram concordando com a meta de 2 graus Celsius! Porém, de acordo com a Avaaz, eles falharam em definir ações específicas de como implementar a meta. O desafio da organização agora é garantir que os líderes políticos mantenham seu compromisso com a assinatura de um tratado global vinculante durante o Encontro da ONU sobre mudanças climáticas em Copenhague em dezembro.
As petições, campanhas de captação, manifestações e lobby político que a nossa comunidade está fazendo está tendo um impacto incrível. A Avaaz cresceu mais de 50.000 pessoas por semana, tendo agora mais de 3,6 milhões de cidadãos engajados em todos os países do mundo. Nós somos realmente globais, operando em 14 línguas, já temos 25.000 membros em Singapura, 35.000 na África do Sul, 130.000 na Itália, 50.000 no México... Nunca antes houve uma comunidade como a nossa, capaz de responder rapidamente a questões globais e mobilizar de forma eficaz o poder da sociedade civil global para as maiores necessidades e preocupações da humanidade -- isto é um grande motivo de esperança!
