SKUAST holding workshop on Hangul Conservation

Rising Kashmir News
Srinagar, Sep 17: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) of Kashmir in collaboration with Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun and Wildlife Protection Department, J&K is organizing an international conference-cum-workshop on Hangul Conservation and Endangered Deer species from 10-12 October 2009 at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC), Srinagar.
The Hangul or Kashmir stag (Cervus Elaphus Hanglu) a sub-species of European Red Deer is a critically endangered deer unique to Kashmir and the last genetically viable Hangul population of the world is at present restricted to Dachigam Park at Srinagar.
The proposed international conference is aimed at bringing together the deer experts and conservationists all over the world to present and discuss their latest research findings on the effective management and conservation aspects of the endangered deer species in general and Hangul in particular thereby sharing the experiences, opinions, and scientific knowledge with the national and international conservationists and to enhance and update our approach and scientific knowledge with the successful species recovery and conservation programmes.
This would help us in evolving strategies for an effective long term management and conservation planning for Hangul and its habitats.
The more specific objectives of the technical sessions of the conference would be status, distribution and natural history, population ecology and deer management, habitat ecology and management, conservation genetics, evolution, and captive breeding, deer behavior and responses to global climate change, deer diseases and health management, endangered deer management and conservation, conservation and future needs, community based approach for the wildlife conservation in general and Hangul in particular.
The conference is expected to come up with a scientific based effective long-term species recovery cum conservation plan for the Hangul and its habitats.

Mary - Kia ora (Maori for wishing you good health - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual)

Thank you for adopting me as a friend on Earth Day network.

Possibly as an instance of climate change, winter has struck here early and hard with a week of foul weather, strong cold southerlies with torrents of rain and occasional hail showers. The mountains are startlingly white and the ski season is starting the earliest for many decades, as much as 2 months earlier than usual. With more energy trapped in the troposphere almost anything can be expected, certainly greater extremes. NZ, as an island nation sitting lengthwise across the path of the weather systems, tends to have 'weather' rather than a reliable climate but this is definitely out-of-character. Is your weather/climate behaving normally this year?

Naturally I also have some interest in the effect of our environment on our health, from weather and sunlight to toxins and mobile phone and radio frequency radiation. What's your particular interest?

Warm regards,
Rex

Hello Mary, and thank you for stopping by. I am familiar with the yoga site, and am subscribed to the main site plus a couple of separate sections, and have also gotten a lot of ideas from there. I've made paper copies of several movements and use them whenever I can. At present I'm looking for yoga videos and/or DVDs that I can follow daily (or almost) as I work better through visual contacts rather than vocals. Take care and have a good week.

Hello Mary, I can do some movements, mostly with the legs, such as lying down and those that don't require using arms raised above the head (right arm is fine, left arm barely half way). I can also do movements that don't require support using the left arm. I do all my movements very slowly and privately at home; I'm seriously thinking of starting up classes come September, if I can find an understanding professor, because my main problem is group meditation and yoga, as I don't hear very well and it's very difficult to follow through. At present I'm looking for Yoga meditation through mp3 where I can put the sound as loud as I need without disurbing anyone.
Take care and have a good new week.
