I am currently a student at the University of the District of Columbia majoring in Information Technology. In studying IT, it is my prayer to be at minimum conscious enough of my environment to be a good steward over it. My goal is to become CEO of a fortune 500 company, and through this position contribute to society through several philanthropic ventures. Hopefully through my example others will be inspired to consider the issues that face humanity, especially the environment and act. I have been humbled by a quote from one of my heroes, Dr. Martin L. King Jr. who said, “Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.”

I believe that with the help of God, my small contribution to the world can be multiplied, just as the five fish and two loaves fed 5000 people. According to the Bible, a little can go a long way and this is comforting as I endeavor to take care of the Earth. My HOME.

Have you not heard?

Have you not heard ?
when it was made
behold it was very good
What Happened?

Let Us make man, He said
Let Us give him Dominion, He said
over the Earth and everything in it
What happened?

Have you not heard . . . ?
Its Your reponsibility to Keep to nurture it
You the steward, made Creation complete
But what happened?

He still trusts you with His will
Thats why He made a way back
Come back and dress it, and keep it
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!!!

Kit Mikayi by Otieno Amisi The rocks at Kit Mikayi Are rocks! rocks upon rocks They are rocks! rocks on rocks rocks big and small finger-like poking sky ward Godward begging for rain

The rocks at Kit Mikayi
are rocks
Tall
Proud
dignified
like the first wife...
Kingly
defiant
long lasting
like a mother's love
not jealous
like a co wife
just there
rocks rocky marking
the land of Seme
the land of strong men

The rocks at Kit Mikayi
You can't crush them
You can't eat them
You can't till them
You can't move them
You can't separate them
You can't You can't
You just can't
rocks on rocks
peeling,
reeling
bulgjng
pregnant
pushing aside,
greedy
rocks scattered
like desert sands
unquenching

Giant Food Store - By Mwinamo Charles

The green, the red the orange the fruit
I wonder why this we don’t eat.
Ahh! Processed is more convenient.
The chemical mess, the beautiful package; but its sweet!
The fake mango flavor, our body it messes
The beautiful package, the earth is messes.
Before you spend, on killing yourself
And while at it destroying the earth
Please give it a thought.

I got this email through the UDC email. THis is something that i think we should consider. thanks the link is at the bottom of the email. March 5, 2009 Environmental Film Festival Kicks Off Next Week DDOE “RiverSmart” Film on Stormwater Pollution Makes Debut Washington, DC – The short film “RiverSmart” about the impact of stormwater pollution on the District’s waterways makes its debut March 16 as part of the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital. The film, produced by DDOE, presents the innovative practices the District Government is using to combat combined sewage overflows and stormwater’s impact on streams and rivers. “With this brief documentary, we’ve found a way to make stormwater make sense,” said DDOE director George S. Hawkins. “Every homeowner and business owner can help keep dangerous pollutants out of the District’s waterways. RiverSmart explains how.” RiverSmart features local media personalities, scientists, and DDOE staff. It premieres Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Landmark E Street Cinema. An additional screening and discussion with DDOE staff will take place Wednesday, March 18 at 5 p.m. at the University of the District of Columbia, Building 41. Both showings are free and open to the public. For more information about RiverSmart and other films, including descriptions, show times and ticket information, please visit the Film Festival Website.
What I learnt from the Film Fest
Stormwater Runoff?
Stormwater runoff occurs when precipitation from rain or snowmelt flows over the ground. Impervious surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and streets prevent stormwater runoff from naturally soaking into the ground.

The problem about this is not the rain water, but it is the garbage and chemicals thats on the Ground that this storm water takes to our rivers and the sea.

The picture below shows all the water going to the sea and rivers poluting with the same garbage that we innocently threw on the streets.

While the District of columbia have professionals addressing this problem, we have a responsibility of how we handle our trash. Lets Take this responsibility and save our Planet.
