Be part of the global Earth Day Network

As this wonderful community grows, we are likely to encounter more spammers. This is one of the costs of free expression, and we believe that freedom of expression is important enough to preserve despite the fact that some people will use it for malicious purposes.

If you believe someone is spamming this network or otherwise using this network inappropriately, please let us know. If you are not sure it is spam, please let us know anyway. This is called community policing, and it is a necessary part of any well-functioning, healthy community. Everyone has done a great job so far, and we look forward to your continued cooperation.

To report a suspected case of inappropriate use of this network, please contact anyone in the group, "Administrators." Thank you.

If people are monitoring this community constantly then the spammers can be removed immediately. After a while they won't come back.

I've been onto them for ages. Done everything but get down on my knees and beg them to take care of the site, but it seems to no avail - Yuji Miyata and I called constantly from japan to Washington until we spoke to the International programme Director, who seemd very nice, and we suggested a way to solve the problem, she seemed to agree, but nothings been done since.

WQe have borught at leats 100 people to this community and I have always promoted it and seen it as a wonderful tool for the people around the world doing good things, but I am not sure I will contnue doing this now.

My suggestion is to call up Washington office until they do something.

I've beeen checking the website to read the recent blogs because Earthday is coming and all I see is spam. Do we have an administrator taking off these spammers and their blogs? It seems counter productive to allow this stuff to stay on the site, for any lenght of time.

Members of the Celebration Earth Community http://www.celebrationearth.ning.com who are also members of Earthday.ning.com are hereby expressing their dismay that the administrators of this network are letting them down by not taking care of the spam problem that has hit this site. Members of Celebration Erath have put forward a solution to this spamming problem, which continues to plague the front pages of earthday ning, and have made numerous phone calls to the Earthday office, requesting the administrators to take action to get rid of all the spam.

We sincerely hope that other members sof this network will take the message to the Earthday Communications Director and the administartors of this site. Everytime a junk spam is posted, mostly ten at a time, a members message or activity ceases to be noticed by the community. Approaching Earthday it is vital to this network and especially its international members, that their activities be seen.

Decided it's not worth wasting our energies and finance trying to convince Earthday administrators to remove this spam from the blog posts - so will post them on Celebration Earth International Community - been at this for months, along with Yuji Miyata, Konomi and the Walking Treeman, asking them to remove spam so members blogs can be more visible. Made 8 calls between us on the 25th March to Washington DC office to offer a solution to the problem - put it forward, but seems to have gone unnoticed. Called several times earlier this year - sent emails. A lot of time and effort.

I don't agree with Spam, infact its the opposite of what I am all about. Anyone who joins us on our Celebration Earth Community will be listened to and if spam is found it will be removed promptly and not be allowed to sit their for days or weeks. Our Celebration Earth Japanese netwrok has almost one hundred events listed for the next six months and more pile in everyday. As of now I am in the process of translating many of these events into English for posting on the Celebrtaion Earth Communty which I invite you to become a part of.

Thanks for the concern and the efforts to protect this earthday.ning site for its community.

Paul & others,
Who ARE the Administrators of this site? It seems like whoever is moderating or administrating is shirking their responsibilities. Why are real people not identified as the founders instead of just Earth Day Network or EDN? I posted more on another forum about proper use of the forums & blogs. I am not seeing the leadership here among the founders although there are several other leaders here like yourself. I would like to know more about the goals of this group. I have been busting my tail Tweeting about this group and probably got 300-400 new members here with help from my ReTweeters. I'm not sure if the effort is worth it if the EDN doesn't care about its own community. David M. Brown, MD aka ZenDoc on Twitter @ZenDoc

Hi David:
I read your post in the forum and I totally understand what you are saying. The administrators of this network have been neglecting thois communtiy anbd I and several others have been on at them foir quite a while. We have even played telephone tag - calling washington agaian and again and agaian, one call diretcly after another until we get a kiving person and when we do, we get a nice chat and that's about it. On our Celebration Earth Communities, we have a face and we listen and respond to our community. I and friends have been very dissapointed by the admoinistration and I have been hoping that other members join us in expressing our dismay. So I was very pleased to see your post.
I'd like to chat with you by skype if we can, as I have alot more to say about this. I am going to send you my skype address by mail.
Thanks again

Several months ago I noticed that the earthday network was moving its post from the very top into the blogs. I pointed out that this was unfair. We have to see what they say, on the top and they keep it up there for a long time. Then they get a second chance when they put it in the blogs. When they do that it knock someones blog off the top page. I told them and they stopped the practice - until today.
For the past couple of month they have had a top page story on real estate
Looking for a house? Keep in mind the three rules of real estate: location, location, location.
Now they have replaced it with another story - from the US as usual - and put it onto the blogs, which nmeans those nice people doing good work in Michigan get knocked off the top page and thereby get seen by less people.
Fairness is a basic principal, along with equality that is a major component of any move to sustainability. It is about time that the network administrators began to listen its memebrs otherwise those members will surely depart.

I could not find a Group called Administrators under the Groups, so I don't know who to report to, but I'm pretty sure there's a serious spammer/phisher who just joined maybe 8-10 hours ago & has been sending out the same mail to many people giving her yahoo email & saying she'll send pictures & they can proceed from there. She goes by "joy" or "sabina" and of course she has no photo posted. Could you please look into it. Thanks. David M. Brown, MD
